Breakthroughs Film Festival (BFF) returns with an exciting line-up of films and industry panels led by female and gender diverse filmmakers

Too Much, Not Enough Programme: “We like to punish things that don’t fit right. In this lineup, outsiders and misfits retreat into cocoons, wrestle with haunting relationships, navigate the weight of migration, and move between worlds that never fully embrace them. Tender, raw, awkward, and defiant — these films embrace the excessive.”

BFF presents Fateema Al-Hamaydeh Miller’s “Mawtini (My Homeland)”. co-presented with Toronto Arab Film. Nawal, a young grieving Palestinian woman, forms an unlikely friendship with Tanya, an older Indigenous woman, becoming an accomplice to her guerilla gardening on the lawn of their apartment building. Together they battle with middle management to make it to harvest.
