Karel Malkoun is a Lebanese filmmaker who sees the world through a romantic and playful lens. Her work explores womanhood, youth, memory, migration, and the complex textures of life in Lebanon, often intimately focusing on characters navigating identity and quiet transformation. From fiction to non-fiction, Karel has written and directed a range of films, aiming for her work to feel like a journey rather than a message. Her films have screened at renowned festivals, with one film shortlisted for a BAFTA award. In 2025, Karel finished her debut feature, a non-fiction film, which premiered at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival and received the Special Jury Mention.
