Layla Makhzoumi

Layla Makhzoumi is an Iraqi-Lebanese corporate lawyer based in the GTA. Born and raised in the Middle East across Iraq, Lebanon and the UAE, she carries a deep passion and appreciation for the music, art and culture of the Arab world.

That love for culture and community stayed with her as she made her way to Canada, first to Montreal where she studied Political Science and Economics at McGill University and was an active member of the Arab Student Association. She later moved to London, Ontario to complete law school at Western University before settling into her career across Toronto and the GTA.

Having moved between countries and cities throughout her life, Layla knows how much art and storytelling mean to people trying to stay connected to where they come from. She’s a strong advocate for Arab voices in the arts and believes that it is one of the most honest ways a community can tell its own story.

Layla is proud to bring both her legal expertise and personal story to TAF where she hopes to continue supporting the voices of her community.
